Crusher Consumables launches editorial Wear Notes series
Crusher Consumables has launched a practical Wear Notes series, offering technical guidance for South African plant leads and maintenance teams facing real-world challenges in crushing and screening.
Wear notes targets practical field challenges
The new Wear Notes series is designed for those running and maintaining crushers and screens across the Highveld, Lowveld, Karoo and coastal regions. The series covers hands-on topics such as jaw plate nip angle, correct closed side setting, and the role of the toggle plate as a fuse for tramp metal. By focusing on practical, local conditions like wet Durban feed, Cape southeaster grit, and Eskom power cuts, the Wear Notes address wear life and reliability in the real world, not just theory.
Each note is editorial, not advertorial, and is put together by Crusher Consumables’ own technical team in Germiston, with input from the parts yard and showrooms in Roodepoort, Randburg, Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein and Mbombela. Wear Notes will be distributed by email to plant leads, maintenance planners and supervisors who want to keep campaigns on track, even when parts runs, weather, and power are unpredictable.
Focused on actionable guidance for plant maintenance
Wear Notes will cover topics including work hardening of austenitic manganese in jaw and cone liners, the importance of feed distribution for even wear in gyratory crushers, and safe liner change-outs using OEM lifting lugs and correct torque on liner bolts. The first series will also look at how to select between martensitic, chrome iron and ceramic insert blow bars for different recycle yard duties, as well as best practice for screen tensioning and polyurethane versus wire mesh media.
Plant leads can expect detailed, step-by-step advice, always recommending reference to OEM manuals for torque and lockout, while highlighting key preventative checks to avoid urgent downtime. The aim is to help local operators organise spares, plan maintenance campaigns, and manage wear profiling, so that crushers keep running even if Eskom throws a curveball.
