Alloy Choice Card
Quarry vs recycle alloy choice on one card.
How to use the alloy choice card
The Alloy Choice Card is a practical tool for foremen, fitters, quarry managers and crushing contractors who need to select the right wear alloy for jaw plates, cone mantles, blow bars or screen media. It is especially helpful in sites facing variable feed, whether you’re running a hard granite face, mixed dolomite, or recycled concrete with tramp iron. The person responsible for wear part ordering or shutdown planning usually completes the card, using input from the crusher operator, plant foreman and maintenance team.
Customers can request the latest printable PDF by sending an email through our contact form. Keep the printed card handy in the control room or planning office, ready to update as your wear profile, feed blend or production demands change.
Filling out the card
Each field on the card helps to match your application and wear pattern to the right alloy and profile. Accurate, up-to-date info makes for fewer changeouts and better tonnes per set. Complete these fields during shutdown prep or after a liner inspection:
- Crusher type and model: Record the machine and chamber profile in use, for example, standard jaw, short-head cone or open shoe VSI.
- Feed material: Tick quarry rock, recycled concrete, or both. Note abrasive content, presence of steel, fines or wet clay.
- Closed side setting (CSS): Write the actual set point in millimetres. This affects liner wear face and nip angle.
- Production rate: Estimate tonnes per hour for typical campaigns.
- Wear history: Mark common failure points, e.g. breakage, rapid wear, or scalloping. Note if previous liners work-hardened correctly.
- Alloy trialled: Tick high-manganese, martensitic, chrome iron, or ceramic insert. Note OEM profile codes if known.
- Changeout interval: List how many hours or tonnes each set lasted, and if wear was even across the face.
Getting value from the card over a campaign
During a liner campaign, the Alloy Choice Card becomes your running record. After each inspection or planned shutdown, update the card with the latest wear pattern, feed blend and performance result. This ongoing log helps you spot trends, such as improvement after switching to martensitic blow bars for shrapnel-laden recycle, or when an OEM profile outlasts a generic.
Use the card at the start of each shutdown planning meeting to support your stock holding decisions and campaign scheduling. Your record can help you compare campaign life between high-manganese jaw plates in wet Highveld dolerite versus harder martensitic bars in a tough Gauteng recycle yard.
Over time, the filled cards help you justify alloy upgrades, change feeder settings, plan choke feeding, or request test liners. Accurate records avoid repeat mistakes and keep production moving through Eskom power cuts, rainy seasons or tough feed swings.
