Coastal Bolt Notes

Salt and grease notes for coastal plants.

Purpose of the coastal bolt notes

The Coastal Bolt Notes sheet is designed for our customers running crushing and screening plants near the sea, where salt air and humidity speed up bolt and liner corrosion. This sheet helps maintenance teams and foremen keep clear records of bolt condition, grease application, and any signs of salt-related damage. It is usually filled in by fitters, maintenance supervisors, or whoever is responsible for liner changes and plant inspections. Keeping up-to-date records on bolt integrity helps you manage safety and avoid unexpected downtime from seized or failed fixings. How to fill in each field

Each section of the Coastal Bolt Notes sheet covers key points you need to check during liner changes or routine inspections. Fill in each field as follows:

  • Date: Write the inspection or liner change date.
  • Plant location: Specify the site and nearest coastal area.
  • Liner position: State the exact liner or plate being inspected.
  • Bolt condition: Note any surface corrosion, pitting, or visible salt deposits.
  • Grease type and application: Record grease type (marine, high-temp, etc) and where it was applied.
  • Torque check: Confirm bolts were torqued to OEM spec, or note if a retorque is needed.
  • Replacement/attention needed: Flag any bolts that need replacement or monitoring before next campaign.

Using the notes across a liner campaign

Plants use the Coastal Bolt Notes sheet to track how well their bolts, nuts, and washers are handling the tough coastal climate over the lifespan of a liner set. By comparing sheets from previous changes, you can spot which bolts need earlier replacement, which grease is lasting, and where salt is causing the most problems. This helps schedule proactive maintenance, avoid seized fixings, and plan liner campaigns around real wear trends. Consistent note-taking also supports safety audits, especially if you ever need to show how you manage corrosion risks in salty environments.
