Ceramic Tip Stock

Ceramic and carbide tip stock for VSI rotors.

Ceramic and carbide tips for VSI rotors

Ceramic and carbide tip stock is designed for use in Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) crusher rotors. These tips are engineered to deal with the intense abrasion and impact forces that come from high-velocity aggregate processing. The ceramic and carbide blend gives outstanding wear life compared to standard steel, with the ceramic insert taking the brunt of the material flow and the carbide ensuring edge retention.

This stock line is ideal for quarries, contract crushers and sand plants running VSI machines on abrasive stone, silica sand, or aggressive recycle feeds. The tips fit into the rotor pockets, directly facing the material stream. This is a critical wear part: the right tip can mean an extra campaign between changeouts and better production figures.

Stock holding at Sunnyrock and site storage advice

At our Sunnyrock yard in Germiston, we keep ceramic and carbide tips stored in their dedicated racking, under roof and out of direct sunlight. Each batch is kept in its original packaging to avoid moisture ingress and chipping, and we do regular checks for cracks or surface damage. Stock is rotated by campaign and wear rate, not just shelf time.

On site, especially on the coast with Durban humidity or the Cape southeaster blowing through, keep tips in sealed containers away from salt air and moisture. Inland, on the Highveld or Karoo, a dry, shaded store is plenty, but always avoid stacking loose tips in bakkies or on concrete floors. If Eskom power cuts are an issue and humidity rises, keep desiccant packets in the containers and check for any signs of rust on the steel carrier plates.

  • Store in original packaging until use
  • Keep dry and away from salt air
  • Avoid stacking loose or dropping
  • Inspect for chips or cracks before fitting

Choosing and ordering the right VSI tip

When ordering ceramic or carbide tips, please tell us your VSI make and model, the rotor type or OEM profile, and whether you need standard or heavy-duty tips. Let us know your feed type, as high-silica or extreme recycle can need a different ceramic insert or tip style. Checking your crushing chamber wear pattern helps us recommend the best tip for even feed distribution and rotor balance.

Our team matches your request to stock held at Sunnyrock for fastest turnaround. For custom or non-standard rotors, sending a sample or detailed drawing will avoid downtime. Use our contact form with your part numbers, quantities, and any unusual wear issues. We keep a range of tip weights from 180 to 420 kg and can advise on safe handling, lifting lugs, and correct backing compound as per OEM manuals.

  • Specify VSI make, model, rotor and chamber profile
  • Tell us about your feed material and application
  • Ask about tip weights and safe handling options
  • Report any unusual wear for technical support
