Request sample noteMn13 plate for abrasive circuits
Mn13 plate, also known as Hadfield steel, is an austenitic manganese steel sheet used mainly for wear liners in applications facing high abrasion but not severe impact. With its nominal 13 percent manganese content, this material is well suited for jaw crusher cheek plates, hopper liners, grizzly bar overlays, and certain chute liners where constant gouging or sliding wear is expected.
Mn13 plate work hardens under impact, creating a tough surface layer while retaining a ductile core. This means the plate can take abrasive wear from stone, sand, or recycled concrete, but is not ideal in positions with repeated heavy blows or where tramp steel is a risk. The most common applications are in quarry primary stations, transfer points, sand plants, and at the discharge end of certain screens and conveyors.

Stock holding and storage at Sunnyrock and on site
At our Sunnyrock yard in Germiston, Mn13 plate is kept under roof on steel racks to prevent distortion or corrosion. Each sheet is clearly tagged with its heat number and thickness, typically ranging from 12 to 40 mm, with widths up to 2 metres and standard lengths up to 6 metres. We inspect plates for straightness and surface condition before dispatch.
On site, especially at the coast where salt air can accelerate rusting, it is best to store Mn13 plate indoors or under a waterproof cover, raised off the ground on timber or steel dunnage. In the Highveld and Karoo, covering is still sensible to avoid weathering and surface scale, which can complicate installation and compromise liner fit. Plates should be handled with certified lifting lugs or chains, avoiding bending or dropping that could lead to cracking. Always check local conditions and site laydown space before delivery.
Choosing and ordering Mn13 plate
To select the right Mn13 plate, specify the thickness, width, and length required, as well as the intended application and any existing wear history. If replacing OEM liners, mention the crusher or screen model, OEM profile, and any critical features such as bolt patterns or lifting lug positions. For custom liners, supply drawings or templates if possible.
When ordering, let us know if you require pre-cut plates, holes drilled, or liner kits prepared for a specific crusher or screen. Our parts team can assist with matching the plate profile to your chamber and advising on expected wear life. Mn13 is ideal where gouging and sliding wear are dominant, but not for positions exposed to severe impact or where martensitic or chrome iron liners are specified by the OEM.
