Request sample noteMn18 plate stock for high-impact crushing
Our Mn18 plate stock is a high-manganese austenitic steel plate, containing approximately 18 percent manganese. This grade is well known for its exceptional work hardening properties, developing a tough, wear-resistant surface as it absorbs impact and pressure during crushing. Mn18 is the industry standard for secondary and tertiary crusher wear parts, especially jaw plates, cone mantles, concaves, and cheek plates. It is most effective in applications where the feed material is abrasive and the crushing action produces moderate to high impact, such as in granite, quartzite, and some recycled concrete streams.
Typical use cases for our Mn18 stock include jaw and cone crushers running in the sand and aggregate quarries across the Highveld, the Karoo, and the coastal regions. The material copes well with the continuous work hardening during choke feeding, provided the closed side setting and nip angle are maintained in line with OEM profiles. For any operation running at 180 to 420 kg feed rates, Mn18 can offer longer campaign life, provided the chamber is kept full and feed distribution is uniform.
Yard holding and on-site storage for tough plate
At Sunnyrock, Germiston, our Mn18 plate stock is stored in a dedicated hardstand area to avoid contamination and corrosion. Plates are kept on timber dunnage with gaps for forklift tines, preventing direct contact with yard gravel or standing water. Every batch is marked with heat numbers for traceability, and plates are stacked with lifting lugs facing outward for safe handling.
If you are storing Mn18 plate on your own site, the local environment matters. On the coast, plates should be kept under cover and away from salt spray, ideally inside a ventilated container or under a plastic tarp to avoid surface pitting. Inland, especially on the Highveld or Karoo, plates can be kept outdoors provided they are off the ground and protected from rain by a roof or tarpaulin. Always check for moisture under the plates after an Eskom power cut, as condensation can form quickly.
Ordering Mn18 plate for your application
When you are ready to order, give us details of your crusher make and model, your current chamber profile, and the part numbers if you have them. If possible, tell us your typical closed side setting, feed material type, and your target output sizes. This helps us match the right Mn18 thickness and profile to your site conditions, whether for jaw plates, cone mantles, cheek plates, or hopper liners.
Our stock covers popular OEM profiles, but we also cut to size for custom applications. Let us know if you require extra features like lifting eyes, special bolt holes, or surface hardening. For large runs or campaign planning, we can reserve plate batches in our Sunnyrock yard for call-off. To enquire or place an order, email us through our contact form.
