Preparing for bowl liner fitment

Shut down and lock out the crusher as per your site protocol before any liner work. Remove the worn liner using lifting lugs and a certified lifting sling or chain, checking that all retaining bolts or clamps are released. Clean the seating surface thoroughly, removing old backing compound or corrosion. Inspect the bowl threads or bolt holes for damage.

Check for any feed packing or stone trapped behind the old liner, as this can affect the seating of the new part. If the crusher has been running with excessive throw or an uneven feed, inspect for metal fatigue or cracks in the bowl shell.

Seating and securing the new bowl liner

Lower the new liner into place using the provided lifting lugs, making sure not to damage the sealing face. For most crushers, a backing compound is used between the bowl and the liner to fill any voids and promote full contact. Mix and pour as per the manufacturer’s instructions, and only torque down the liner bolts to the values specified in the OEM manual after the backing compound has set.

For bolt-on types, tighten bolts in a star pattern. If only clamped, follow the recommended torque sequence. Never reuse old bolts or nuts. Once the liner is seated, rotate the bowl by hand to check for fit and freedom of movement.

Commissioning checks before returning to service

Before running the crusher, check the closed side setting and ensure the chamber is choke fed for the first tonnes. Monitor the crusher for abnormal noise or vibration, which could indicate misalignment or an improperly seated liner.

During the first shift, inspect all bolts or clamps for tightness once the crusher has warmed up. Document the start date and hour-metre reading for wear tracking.
