Crusher preparation and safe removal

Always follow OEM lockout procedures before working around jaw chambers. Isolate the crusher, confirm with your team, and use the correct lifting lugs and gear to remove the old plates safely. Inspect the side frame for scarring or cracks, especially where previous cheeks have worn through. Clean the seat thoroughly and check for debris or old backing material.

Fitting the new cheek plates

Position each cheek plate in its correct side, using the left or right markings. Line up all bolt holes and check that no fasteners are fouled. Use only OEM or matched bolts, torqued as per manufacturer’s guidelines (refer to your OEM manual for the correct values). Do not reuse damaged bolts. Some crushers require a backing compound, while others rely on a metal-to-metal fit; follow your machine’s recommendation.

  • Check bolt torque after initial run
  • Use new bolts if in doubt
  • Do not strike plates with hard hammers

Commissioning and setting checks

Before running the crusher at full capacity, check the closed side setting and nip angle, making sure the jaw plates and cheeks are sitting flush. Run the first batch of feed at half rate and watch for any shifting or movement. After the first shift, stop and retorque all bolts, looking for signs of settling or vibration. Regularly inspect for loose fasteners and plate movement during the first week.
