Monitoring mantle wear and campaign tracking
Track mantle wear using ultrasonic gauging or manual calliper checks at set intervals. Record measurements at multiple points to detect uneven wear. Dusty Highveld conditions can accelerate wear on one side, so inspect circumferentially. Use a wear profile map to identify hot spots, and adjust feed distribution as needed to prevent premature change-outs.
Document each campaign’s duration and tonnage processed. This helps plan the next liner order and keeps you ahead of unplanned stoppages.
When and how to rotate or replace the mantle
Replace or rotate the mantle when the minimum allowable thickness is reached, or if cracks, deformation, or backing failures occur. Do not wait for the mantle to break through, as this risks head and concave damage. If your crusher allows, rotating the mantle can extend life by evening out wear. Always follow OEM guidelines for safe removal and re-fitment.
During change-out, inspect the seating and head for scoring or burrs. Replace or repair as needed before installing the new mantle.
Planning ahead and common failure points
Plan stock holding by reviewing the wear record and typical campaign length. Always keep at least one spare mantle on site, especially during mine shut or wet season when roads are slow. Common causes of premature failure include poor feed distribution, tramp metal ingress, improper torque on liner bolts, and missed first-shift checks.
To avoid campaign disruption, coordinate with your site maintenance crew and confirm fitment support before each change-out.
