Safe preparation before fitting screen media

Lock out all drives and tag the screen before starting. This is non-negotiable, as vibration units can start unexpectedly. Remove guards and check for any trapped material or loose hardware. Inspect deck rails, clamp bars, and bolts for cracking or rounding. Damaged rails or clamps must be repaired or replaced before fitting new media, or you risk panel movement and premature breakage.

Lifting, seating and tensioning panels

Use proper lifting lugs or handles if your panels are over 25 kg. For heavier PU modules, a bakkie jack or two-person lift may be needed. Seat each panel squarely against the rails, ensuring no overlap or gap. For bolt-down panels, start all bolts finger-tight, then torque in the manufacturer’s recommended sequence and to spec. With hook-type or clamp rail panels, use the supplied tension notes to clamp evenly from centre outwards, checking that the panel sits flush to the deck frame.

Checks before running the first tonnes

Once the panels are fitted and clamped, rotate the screen manually to check for any fouling or loose hardware. Test all fastenings for tightness. Before feeding material, confirm the aperture by passing the supplied aperture card through several points on each screen. After the first hour of running material, shut down, lockout again, and retighten all clamps and bolts to catch any bedding-in movement. This first-shift check saves unplanned downtime later.
