Monitoring and managing bowl liner wear

Regular wear profiling is essential. Use a tape measure or ultrasonic tool to check liner thickness at the main wear zones near the choke point and rim. Record these measurements at set intervals, especially if running aggressive feed or high-rebar recycle. A sudden increase in wear pattern or spalling may indicate feed misalignment, uneven cavity profile, or tramp metal ingress.

If your bowl liner is wearing faster than the paired mantle, or vice versa, align your change-out windows. Running one component too thin forces awkward mid-campaign changes.

When and how to rotate or turn your bowl liner

Some bowl liner profiles can be rotated 180 degrees once the leading edge is worn, extending service life. Only rotate if recommended for your chamber type and if seating surfaces are still sound. Always clean and reseat the liner with fresh backing compound or correctly torqued bolts.

Change-out criteria include loss of profile, excessive wear (>10 mm remaining), or signs of cracking or distortion. Never run a bowl liner to collapse, as this risks damage to the bowl shell and mantle.

Planning bowl liner change-outs and holding stock

Organise your liner campaigns based on measured wear rates and expected tonnes processed. For long stretches between changes, hold a spare set in your parts store or at our yard. Account for lead times if your chamber profile is non-standard.

Common failure causes include feed segregation, incorrect choke feed, over-tightening of bolts, and running with tramp metal or oversize steel. Always refer to the crusher OEM manual for correct maintenance routines and torque settings. For technical advice or urgent orders, contact Contact form.
