Monitoring wear and knowing when to rotate
Monitor your concave wear by checking thickness at set intervals, usually every 500 run hours or as production dictates. Use a weld gauge or callipers at marked points, and keep a simple log. For multi-piece sets, rotation may extend life, but only swap segments as a full set if the chamber profile allows. Watch for step wear or pattern deviation, which signals uneven feed or incorrect seating.
Criteria for change-out and safe handling
Change out the concave set when remaining thickness is below the OEM minimum, or if cracking, chunk break-off, or through-wear is spotted. Do not wait for a blow-through, as this can destroy the chamber and spider. Use the torch note for safe segment removal and ensure you have a burn plan and fire watch in place. Always use proper lifting lugs and certified gear for removal.
- Change at OEM minimum thickness
- Watch for cracks, chunk loss
- Use burn plan if torching
Planning ahead: next change and stock holding
Keep one full set of matched concave and mantle liners in stock if your feed is unpredictable or Eskom power cuts put pressure on your maintenance window. Record wear rates to predict your next change and communicate with us early if you see a spike in wear. If rapid profile loss is noted, consider changing feed arrangement or upgrade to a higher grade. Good campaign planning means less downtime and no panic orders.
